Young Writers and Illustrators Seminar
With the author and illustrator of The Wonky Donkey.
Four students from Matipo attended the Auckland Reading Association’s Young Authors and Illustrators Seminar held at Hay Park School on Friday 19th August.
Grace Muller, Jason Xavier, Lovina de Silva and Margaret Lowe attended two workshops with The Wonky Donkey author Craig Smith and illustrator Katz Cowley. Both workshops encouraged and taught children how to write and illustrate their own stories.
All four reported they thoroughly enjoyed the experience and will be using the tips they learnt from both Craig Smith and Katz Cowley in their own writng.
Matariki Week
Last week Matipo School celebrated Matariki. In class we learnt about Matariki through a range of activities including Maths, Reading Journal Articles, Myths and Art. The Matariki celebrations were concluded with a fabulous Hangi. Thanks to all our volunteers who helped it be a huge success in dreadful weather!

Mick Peck, Magician
We had the great pleasure of having Mick Peck, Magician, come and perform for us on Wednesday 11th May. He came and told us about the magic of reading and how if we love reading then we can become anything we want to be when we grow up. Mick is a very talented magician (we don’t know how he did a lot of his tricks!).
Poetry Competition
Last Friday we had our School Poetry Competition. Mrs Noelle Fletcher, the Principal from Te Atatu Intermediate School, judged the competition for us. Congratulations to the following winners:

Community Fun Day at Pringle Park
A few weeks ago Matipo School was part of the Community Fun Day at Pringle Park. There were cake stalls, horse rides, bouncy castles, raffles and our famous Matipo School Band. Check out the fun!
Zone Athletics
For the third year in a row, Matipo has won the Zone Athletics competition! Congratulations guys and fantastic work.
Twilight Disco
On Friday the 25th we had a Twilight Disco. The Councillors and Mr Pilkington Organised the disco to raise funds for the World Vision child they sponsor in Bangladesh.
Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra Visit
Recently the APO visited. They had a mix of instruments from the Orchestra. We enjoyed guessing the TV Programmes they played for us and also the suprise appearance from the Bass Clarinet player who snuck in teh back door to play to us!
Athletics Day 2011
We had a really successful Athletics Day on Wednesday 23 March. Congratulations to Rangi who came first! The Junior School were split into boys and girls while they competed in their heats during the morning. While one lot competed the rest were having fun doing Tabloid Sports. Thank you to all the wonderful parents who came and supported us during the day!
