Te Atatu Intermediate Kapahaka Visit

The Te Atatu Intermediate kapahaka group came to our school to give us a fantastic performance. It was great to see many ex-Matipo Children amongst the group.

Cultural Festival

On Wednesday 11th November Matipo’s Cultural groups headed down to Corbans to perform at the Cultural Festival.  We were among 35 other Primary Schools.  We had been practicing twice a week and even more when we came closer to our performance date.  We were all quite nervous but once on stage there was no holding us back!

We opened with the Kapahaka group, followed by our Maraukau group, Samoan group and lastly our Polynesian group – who had a Hawaiian theme.  Our performances were well received by the crowd and especially by the MC who borrowed our cd as he was so impressed by the dances!

I would like to take this opportunity to say a BIG thank you to all our tutors and supporters who came to Corbans!  It was great to be greeted by you all and pass on your praises to the children.

Samoan Language Week – Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa

This week was Samoan Language Week ~ Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa.

We had a Special Assembly on Friday taken by our Samoan Language Group. Goldberg said the Lords Prayer in Samoan followed by his Sister singing the Samoan National Anthem for us.

Our Samoan Language Group also shared what they have been learning so far this year. Such as: The Alphabet, Numbers, Days of the Weeks, Months of the Year. They also shared a small conversation in Samoan.

The Polynesian Dance Group also shared some faboulous Samoan dances for us!
Our Special Assembly ended with us singing O le Pepe.

Some classes also did fun activities in their classes to celebrate Samoan Language Week. In Rooms 8 and 17 they designed their own Tapa Cloths and in Room 11 they played Bingo to help them learn the Samoan numbers and colours, sang an Action Song with their Buddy Class, Room 5 and lastly tasted Samoan Banana Pancakes and ate and drank from some Coconuts.
