Giants From Outer Space Dress Rehearsal Sneak Peek

Friday saw the first full dress rehearsal for this years school production, Giants From Outer Space. This year the production is entirely in-house, with it being written by Mr Simpson and produced by Mr Webster. Contact the office for tickets, they’re selling fast!

Samoan Language Week

Matipo Primary celebrated Samoan Language Week ~ Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa.

We had a Special Assembly on Friday taken by our Samoan Language Group. Each class also shared something they had done during the week.

Our Samoan Language Group also shared what they have been learning so far this year. Such as: The Alphabet, Numbers, Days of the Weeks and Months of the Year.

The Polynesian Dance Group also shared a dance for us!

Christmas on the Green

Last night we celebrated Christmas on the Green. What a treat it was to see so many whanau celebrate this special occasion with us. Our performances included the Polynesian group, Kapahaka, Violinists, The Funky Fish, Oscar with his outstanding voice and our famous Music Mob. We were also honoured to have Chris Carter stop in to speak to us and enjoy our entertainment. It was a perfect way to wrap up our year at Matipo.

On behalf of all the staff here at Matipo we would like to thank all our whanau for your support and also our wonderful Principal Wayne Bainbridge.

Music Mob

Last week the Music Mob had two engagements, one at the Te Atatu Village Spring Festival and one at the Union Church Centennial Concert. They were very well received by both audiences.

Mandarin Lessons

The Senior School are lucky enough to be learning Mandarin for the next 10 weeks. This is provided by the University of Auckland and Confucius Institute.

The children love Jessica Tan and her enthusiasm for teaching the language.

Matariki 2010

Last week Matipo School celebrated Matariki. Each winter the stars of Matariki and Puanga signal the end of one year in Aotearoa and the beginning of the next. Traditionally Maori have recognised the rise of Matariki as a time to celebrate and prepare for the indigenous New Year.

In class we learnt about Matariki through a range of activities including Maths, Reading Journal Articles, Myths and Art, and Room 9 had a planting day.

The Matariki celebrations were concluded with a fabulous Hangi. Thanks to all our volunteers who helped it be a huge success!

Pasifika Parents Night

Last Week we had a Pasifika Parents Night. We were totally overwhelmed and pleased by the huge number of Parents and Children that attended the evening. Thank Miss Oto and the Polynesian Group for performing their items for us.And a big Thank you for all the positive feedback from the night!

A very worthwhile evening and we look forward to having another next term!

Samoan Language Week

Last week Matipo focussed on Samoan Language in preparation for this Weeks Samoan Language Week.

Many classes used this time to practise Samoan Language in the classroom, investigate Samoa and its culture and also to do various styles of Samoan Art. MTV used this time to teach us new words each day!

We finished the week off with the Samoan Language Group taking Friday’s Assembly. This was an opportunity to showcase what each class had been doing throughout the week.

What an amazing assembly!

Te Atatu Intermediate Kapahaka Visit

The Te Atatu Intermediate kapahaka group came to our school to give us a fantastic performance. It was great to see many ex-Matipo Children amongst the group.
