Children in our society are directed by parents and it is more often than not the case that children are not respected for who they are and why they do what they do. Rarely do parents seek an explanation or opinion from a child or discuss issues/ events but rather demand and order them with conditions whether reasonable or not. We need to remember that children are small versions of ourselves with the same feelings, emotions, intuition and sensitivities, merely lacking the ability to understand the "why". Children deserve the utmost respect from adults, they are their own person and need to be treated as such. In a successful, loving, adult relationship respect is mandatory. Relationships with children are no different and should be treated with no less regard. If a child is afforded the same respect we reserve for our beloved friends, colleagues, family, they will grow up respecting themselves, respecting others and will enjoy happy fulfilled lives. They will be able to identify right from wrong and have the strength and self assuredness to stand up for what they believe in. It comes from their core, their own sense of self.

Child abuse is a manifestation of a greater problem than the abuse itself. Lack of meaning, lack of direction, lack of self worth, lack of power and control of ones life. Empowering the individual is the only way we can start to "fix" the state of society. Unfortunately the focus is always on the punishment and what punishment will prevent the abuse from happening again. I don't believe the punishment, no matter how terrible, will solve the problem.

Nutrician is essential for growth and development and also plays a critical role in behaviour. This is a fact not opinion. Until we can guarantee that every child is getting breakfast at home , we should use the school as back up. Otherwise the rest of the valuable eduational resourse is money and time wasted.
Well done Matipo - excellent effort where it counts most. Very clever Mr Bainbridge!!
