MATIPO WINS A PIANO

Some students from Room 17 with their siblings, recently entered a competition  by Play it Strange Trust and Huawei called “The 100 Piano Project”.  The competition was giving away 100 pianos to New Zealand schools.  The children were challenged to create an original song, poem, story or artwork that needed to include the subject of a piano.

Here is what the Matipo kids created: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6wvoQgohFM

We were so happy to hear that the song “Play Together” was one of the winning entries, winning a brand new piano for Matipo!

Last Friday, Room 17 invited Mike Chunn from Play it Strange and Huawei’s Vera Wei to their assembly, where they performed the song and revealed the piano to the school.
Mike Chunn also spoke to the school and played on the new piano.

Many thanks to Michael Smith Photography for the photos, and to Play it Strange and Huawei for this wonderful opportunity – and of course – our shiny new piano!
